Manly won't want relocation: Lyon

Jamie Lyon has told media today not to expect the Sea Eagles or their fans to travel south for home games after news that the NSW Government's stadia strategy may force the club's hand away from Brookvale in coming seasons.

Under the stadia strategy, Manly and Sydney's other beachside club, Cronulla, would be forced to play a selection of matches at Allianz Stadium, in order for the NRL to receive the requisite funding for large-scale upgrades of both Allianz and the Sydney Olympic Park venue ANZ Stadium. Major upgrades to Parramatta's Pirtek Stadium are also part of the $1.6 billion cumulative package.

Lyon was clear that he wasn't keen for games to be moved to the Moore Park venue, and was adamant fans would be of the same view.

"I don't like the idea - we'd rather stay at Brookvale. That is our home." the Sea Eagles' captain said on Wednesday.

"People north of the Spit Bridge will be angry about this. I don't normally cross it, let alone the [Sydney] Harbour Bridge, so I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it."

ARLC chairman John Grant met with representatives of both the Sea Eagles and Sharks today with NRL keen to meet a criteria of 65 matches per season across the three to-be-funded venues.

Cronulla CEO Lyall Gorman said he would consider such a partial move for his club if the financial arrangements benefited their members, corporate partners and supporters. At the same time he also reassured all stakeholders the Shire-based side was committed to its home ground at Woolooware and the region itself.

For Manly, the decision isn't as simple, with the club's constitution setting out that they must play at least 10 home games in a 12 home game NRL season at the Brookvale venue.
