Classy Kangaroos crush clunky Kiwis

Australia have well and truly justified their World Cup favouritism with an opening 30-6 win over New Zealand in front of a very healthy crowd at the Sydney Football Stadium tonight.

The Kiwis began by turning over a glut of first-quarter possession to the home side and this was quickly converted into an advantage on the scoreboard thanks to a penalty goal and a try to centre Greg Inglis. The Kangaroos had further scoring opportunities to Glenn Stewart and Israel Folau denied by some desperate defence before Kiwi second rower Sika Manu scored after bursting onto a Benji Marshall pass and suddenly the gap was reduced to only two points.
