Dane Chisholm seals Easts thriller

After a speight of tight finishes, the Easts Tigers are finally on the winner's list after a stunning last gasp 32-26 victory over Souths Logan Magpies at Davies Park.

At 26-all in the 78th minute, the game was seemingly heading for a stalemate before Tigers' five-eighth Luke Kelly produced a perfect chip-kick and re-gather to set up a supporting Dane Chisholm under the posts.

It was the second Easts try in the final five minutes after bustling winger Elijah Niko snuck over on the sideline to level proceedings.

Playmaker Matt Minto had the chance to steal the lead then but his attempted conversion sailed wide, leaving it to the Melbourne Storm contracted duo of Kelly and Chisholm to conjure a miracle.

Easts' coach Troy McCarthy said he was pleased to finally see his side's effort on the field translate to points on the ladder.

"I'm pretty relieved with the two points, it's been close for the last three weeks where we've been in the game for the last ten minutes," he said.

"Today I thought we defended our errors more-so than what I've seen and then in our last 12 sets we had 11 completions which is great at that end of the game," McCarthy said.

The coach also gave specific credit to experienced prop James Stosic, while Chisholm drew praise for his most dangerous game in Tigers' colours.

Earlier, Easts opened their account when a short ball from Minto allowed Chisholm to slice through the Magpies' defence in the 8th minute.

However, Souths Logan hit back with three straight tries for a 16-6 advantage - centre Jamie Dodt snared a double, while Corey Thompson reached out in the corner to score in his Intrust Super Cup debut.

A great team movement, inspired by a Chisholm flick and finished by a Fred Pakutoa barge, saw the Tigers trail by only 16-12 at the break.

The Magpies threatened to run away with the contest when flanker Drury Low brushed off some uninspiring scrum base defence before the visitors rebounded with tries to Shane Neumann (61st minute) and a smart finish from Kev Stephensen (64th minute) to lock things up at 22-all.

In a see-sawing climax, Low then scored out wide to give Souths Logan a four point buffer with eleven minutes left on the clock.

However, it proved not enough - the Tigers finished with a roar to claim their maiden victory this season.

Next weekend, Easts return home to take on the Norths Devils at Langlands Park on Saturday.
