Gasnier out of Warriors/Dragons
match

St George Illawarra chief executive Peter Doust confirmed Gasnier would miss Sunday's clash with the New Zealand Warriors because his preparation had been "severely affected".

St George Illawarra centre Mark Gasnier has been granted the weekend off by the Dragons - but only after going close to joining Jamie Lyon in walking out on rugby league.

Doust said Gasnier had been confused about his place in the game.

However, after talks with club officials and professional advice the 22-year-old had decided to return to training on Monday.

"I think it's fair to say that he's had some frustration with injuries for some time," said Doust.

"That created some confusion in his mind about where he was in the game. That's very severely affected his preparation for this week.

"After some consultation with the club and some professional advice he'll be back on Monday."

Gasnier, the nephew of Immortal Reg Gasnier, burst onto the rugby league scene four years ago, touring with the Kangaroos a year later.

But the classy centre has struggled to attain those lofty standards since due to a succession of injuries.
