Kogarah a better option

Following Kogarah Council's recent statement that Jubilee Oval is under utilized, Dragons CEO Peter Doust has implied that Kogarah is a more economically viable option for the Dragons than WIN Stadium. In today's `Sydney Morning Herald', Doust cast some doubt over the future of the Dragons at WIN Stadium should the new poker machine tax in NSW become effective.

Doust confirmed that the Dragons were looking at extending their agreement with WIN beyond 2005, but this has been put on hold until the Club conducts a full investigation on the impact of the proposed tax.

Significantly, Doust stated, "OKI Jubilee Stadium is a lot cheaper, more cost effective for the club."

He added that, "We don't pay the rental fees we have at WIN Stadium and we get the proceeds from food and beverage sales and a bigger return from corporate hospitality."

Even if St.George-Illawarra home games continue at WIN from 2006, Kogarah should be granted the lion's share on this basis. This would make up for the imbalance between the two regions from 2002 to 2005.
