Pat Richards returns to Wests Tigers

Wests Tigers is pleased to announce the signing of former premiership winning winger Pat Richards to a two-year contract from 2014.

Richards was a member of the inaugural 2005 Wests Tigers premiership winning side. He featured in arguably one of the most memorable moments in Grand Final history when he received a magical flick pass from Benji Marshall and went on to score a superb try.

In 2005, Richards scored a then club record of 20 tries in a season for Wests Tigers. He scored 26 tries in 39 games for Wests Tigers from 2004-2005.

Richards left Wests Tigers at the end of 2005 to join Wigan where he has been a revelation in the English Super League. Richards has been the top points scorer in the Super League on four occasions. He is currently the competition’s leading points scorer this season.

Richards said he is very excited to be returning to the NRL with the Wests Tigers, a Club close to his heart.

“I have some incredible memories from my time previously at the Club,’’ Richards said.

“The premiership success in 2005 created a special bond amongst the players and with the supporters.

“I can’t wait to reunite with the likes of Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall and Liam Fulton and to proudly pull on the Wests Tigers jersey again.”

Wests Tigers Coach Mick Potter saw plenty of Richards playing for Wigan, having coached in the Super League previously.

“Pat has been one of the best performing players in England for many seasons now. He was a winner of the 2010 Man of Steel award which recognises the season’s best player,’’ Potter said.

“His size, strength and skill as well as his experience and goal-kicking ability will be great assets for our squad. We look forward to welcoming Pat back to the Wests Tigers family.”
