The Dolphins Premier Grade side booked themselves a spot in the preliminary final against Burleigh after a comprehensive victory over North?s at Bishop Park last Saturday.
The opening 10 minutes saw North?s applying concerted pressure to the Dolphins with a glut of possession and field position. The Dolphins were up to the challenge and when they eventually received some possession were able to put together some enterprising play that saw them go to the break 14 nil in front. The Devils fought back to 14-10 in the opening exchanges of the second half before the Dolphins flexed some muscle with a forceful display that ended the Devils finals series with 2 consecutive losses to the tune of 33 points to 10. The Dolphins forwards were outstanding while ABC Man of the Match Nick Emmett was instrumental in the win delivering Phil Shilvock 2 of his 3 tries with clever flick passes. Captain Shane Perry led the side well and put the game out of reach of North?s with a field goal to take the margin out to 19 points with around 10 minutes remaining before a clever short side play involving Matt Mapes and Duane O?Grady put winger Liam Georgetown away to deliver the final score line.
Today?s game presents a great challenge to the Dolphins when they confront Premiers Burleigh on home soil to decide who will meet the North Queensland Young Guns in next weekends Grand Final. Both sides have a proud history and will be determined to earn the right to challenge for the Premiership and expectations of a quality game will not be disappointed.
