Wrap: Nutley, Hindy, Ricko, Broncos

Castleford has allowed captain Danny Nutley to leave the English club at the end of the Super League season despite the forward recently agreeing to a new contract.

Nutley signed a two-year extension to his Tigers contract earlier this summer but requested an early release to allow the 32-year-old Australian to return home with his family for personal reasons.

The former Cronulla prop has been linked with the Sydney Roosters as a replacement for Warrington-bound Adrian Morley.

Parramatta forward Nathan Hindmarsh's knee injury is yet to fully recover but the Test star says he'll make it to the end of the Tri Nations series in October-November. Hindmarsh says pain is not a problem in the knee, which he hurt at the end of last season, but movement has been.

The Kangaroos back-rower says he's felt the problem since the beginning of the season but it flared up after the match against Manly two weeks ago.

Former Sydney Roosters captain Luke Ricketson, who played in nine straight finals campaigns, says this weekend's clashes between the NRL's top six sides are just what the players need heading into the finals.

The finals arrive early in round 23 as Newcastle hosts Manly on Friday, Melbourne visits Brisbane and the Bulldogs meet St George Illawarra on Sunday. Ricketson says it's important for sides to get some winning momentum because they can draw on that when the going gets tough in September.

He says it doesn't matter whether sides have tougher or easier runs home as long as the ruthless finals-type footy begins a few weeks out.

The Brisbane Broncos are considering further action against utility forward Neville Costigan after fining him $5000 after he was charged by police with drink driving.

Broncos managing director Bruno Cullen is holding a news conference at the club's Brisbane headquarters at 2.30pm (AEST) to announce if Costigan will face more penalties. Management, coaching staff and senior players were meeting today to examine Costigan's case.

The club has threatened to tear up the 21-year-old's contract over the drink drive incident in Brisbane on Monday night, which he didn't report until yesterday. They may drop him from Sunday's Suncorp Stadium match against competition leaders Melbourne and order him to do some community service.
