Pearce controlled the game from the outset. His kicks challenged the Tigers back three on every occasion, and managed to pick up a try with some incisive running.

Unlucky not to get the win, Benji Marshall's absense late in the first half was felt by the Tigers. They lifted immediately when he came back onto the field, and was an important part of most of his team's points.
