Round 16 - Accor Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park / Wanngal - Crowd: 10012

Match Overview

It wasn't just a new light system or the weather that was dull at Stadium Australia as Parramatta were absolutely no match for South Sydney as the Rabbitohs ran out big 30-12 victors.

Souths welcomed back Latrell Mitchell and his impact was immediate as the Rabbitohs were the more dominant side early and despite being denied early off a Cody Walker kick, it took them just six minutes to score. The Rabbitohs took advantage of the Parramatta defence rushing in and a good pass from Latrell put Alex Johnston into space out wide to score in the corner.

Creating something out of nothing was the recipe for South Sydney's second try when Cody Walker's first average kick was knocked back by Damien Cook who got the ball to Latrell Mitchell who found Jaxson Paulo who's on kick set up Jai Arrow to score.

Souths put the pressure on and looked to have a third when Jaxson Paulo was initially awarded a try by referee Ben Cummins only for the bunker to step in and deny the Souths winger when it was pretty obvious that he had gone into touch.

The no try and then a subsequent penalty hurt the Rabbitohs as the Eels were able to score when Shaun Lane ran to the line and found Clint Gutherson who juggled the ball and scored.

Souths had dominated the first half and the scoreboard didn't reflect the dominance they had until right on the stroke of half-time when Alex Johnston took an offload as Mitch Moses looked to tip the ball on but only found the Souths flyer who raced away to score. Latrell Mitchell converted for the third time and put the Rabbitohs out to a 18-6 lead.

The second half was all red and green again as Souths dominated field position although it took them until just after the hour mark to get their first try of the second half when Jaxson Paulo scored in the corner after some good work from Campbell Graham.

Souths added another try through Damien Cook which was set up by a big run from Latrell Mitchell over the top of Reed Mahoney and Mitchell found Illias before he found Cook to score under the posts.

A late consolation try for Parramatta gave Clint Gutherson a double when the Eels had rare attacking field position to put on a great attacking play.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will grow in confidence with the win as they head to Newcastle next Friday night whilst the Parramatta Eels have a tough task against the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday night.
