The NRL has announced the Pools for the 2015 NRL Auckland Nines competition with four new pool names, including Rangitoto, Waiheke, Piha and Hunua. The two day event kicks off on January 31st at Eden Park, with the 2015 competition featuring three matches played between the Australian Jillaroos and the New Zealand Kiwis Womens team.
The Four Pools meanings:
Rangitoto: The Island's famed volcanic cone
Waiheke: The home of the nation's wineries
Piha: Represents a rugged West Coast beach
Hunua Ranges: one of the nation's most famous bush areas
The reigning champions, North Queensland Cowboys have been drawn in the Waiheke Pool along side the Melbourne Storm, Penrith Panthers and South Sydney Rabbitohs. All 34 games will be broadcast on FOX Sports Australia and Sky Sports NZ with the 16 clubs fighting for a share in $2.4 Million. Rangitoto Pool (A): Parramatta Eels, Manly Sea Eagles, Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra Dragons
Waiheke Pool (B): Melbourne Storm, North Queensland Cowboys, Penrith Panthers and South Sydney Rabbitohs
Piha Pool (C): Sydney Roosters, Brisbane Broncos, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs and Cronulla Sutherland Sharks
Hunua Pool (D): Canberra Raiders, Wests Tigers, Gold Coast Titans and New Zealand Warriors
