St Helens won 17-16 against Salford Red Devils in a wild game at Totally Wicked Stadium on Thursday night.
It was a wild game which saw four sin bins as the hosts consolidated their spot in the Super League top four.
The Saints marched to the first four-pointer of the contest. It was swung to Tommy Makinson who strolled over.
Salford were the first side to earn the ire of the official. Joe Shorrocks was binned after a professional foul to prevent a score.
The Devils absorbed the pressure and Marc Sneyd kicked a pair of penalty goals to make it 4-4 going into half-time.
The hosts surged from the start of the second half again. It was a passage of passes which saw Waqa Blake go over.
Salford struck back from the boot. Sneyd punched a kick through which Chris Hankinson got fingertips on to put down.
St Helens nudged ahead 16-10 from another close range try. It was a slick pass for Joe Batchelor who sliced through.
The game quickly exploded into action. Morgan Knowles was binned for a high shot for Saints then both Batchelor and Salford's Oliver Partington were given marching orders.
Salford made use of their advantage to level the game. Nene Macdonald stepped past a defender and swerved to the line for 16-all.
The two sides couldn't find a winner in regular time so this clash went into Golden Point to open Round 21.
Moses Mbye was the hero for St Helens in Golden Point. The Saints surged downfield which set the former NRL star to pilot over the field goal.

Catalans Dragons won 23-22 against a dogged Huddersfield Giants side at John Smith's Stadium on Friday night.
The Dragons extinguish their shock loss from last week and keep themselves in the Super League peloton.
They got off to a hot start with a score in the opening five minutes. The ball was sent down the wing before Bailey Sironen strolled over.
Next, the visitors swung it left to double their delight. Veteran Sam Tomkins sliced through and made it 10-0.
The Dragons added their third in the rollicking start. It was kicked twice in the build up and ended with Foud Yaha diving over.
Huddersfield got on the board in the first half. It was a slick backline move and was finished with Jake Bibby touching down.
The visitors were reduced to twelve after Julian Bousquet was binned for a high tackle on a Giants attacker.
Huddersfield used their advantage well to bring it back to 14-10 before half-time. Tui Lolohea kicked through and Kevin Naiqama planted it down.
Catalans had another quick start to the half. It was spread wide again and Arthur Romano got the four-pointer.
Matt Ikavalu used his strength to make it 22-10. The former Rooster kept the legs pumping and got the ball down after video referee confirmation.
The Giants refused to back down and a pair of tries from Sam Hewitt and Lolohea brought them back level.
It was the Dragons who took the spoils late in the piece. Arthur Mourgue drilled the field goal to make it 23-22 for the visitors.

Hull KR beat Castleford Tigers 36-6 in their game down at Sewell Group Craven Park on Friday night.
The Robins move back into first on the Super League after their comfortable win against the Tigers.
It was the Tigers who pounced early in the game. Swift passing saw Alex Mellor charge over after needing confirmation from the video referee.
Hull KR struck back quickly through Peta Hiku. Niall Evalds flicked the ball to the powerhouse back and he slammed it down.
Next, it was a simple backline move to extend Hull KR's lead. Joe Burgess had the simple finish from the move.
Mikey Lewis continued to be the energizer bunny of the Robins. He started and finished a move which made it 14-6.
The Robins were in full flow after their slow start. Quick hands again allowed Ryan Hall to push off a defender to score.
Things went from bad to worse for the Tigers after Nixon Putt was binned for a dangerous tackle early in the second half.
Another high tackle, this time from Joe Westerman gave Lewis a gift two points to extend the lead to 20-6.
Sauaso Sue also went to the bin for dissent but the Robins saw out his time without conceding any points.
Hull KR piled on the points late with Burgess getting a second alongside scores from Evalds and Tyrone May for a 36-6 final score.

Leeds Rhinos were 30-4 winners against Wigan Warriors in their game at AMT Headingley Stadium.
The Rhinos have given their top six hosts a boost but remain four points off sixth place Salford Red Devils.
The hosts opened the scoring from their own half. Lachlan Miller started the move then fired the final pass for Harry Newman to go over.
Leeds added penalty goals either side of half-time which stretched their lead out to 10-0 against the champions.
It was Miller time again for the Rhinos. He sliced through the Warriors defence and slammed it down in the left corner.
Adam Keighran was binned for the Warriors and they butchered a chance on the edge as it was just one of those days.
The Rhinos were at their counter attacking best with a long-range surge ended with James McDonnell charging over.
Wigan found a late consolation score on the left edge. Liam Marshall with a acrobatic effort to go over for 24-4.
Leeds added some final icing to the cake with another four-pointer. Miller lept high and batted it back for Rhyse Martin to score.

Leigh Leopards won 42-12 against lowly Hull FC down at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday afternoon.
The Leopards bounced back from their last defeat to get back in the winner's circle with a commanding win.
It was a tense opening quarter of the game before Will Gardinner was binned for Hull FC for persistent fouling.
Leigh took their advantage with Kai O'Donnell opening the scoring then Frankie Halton sliced through for 12-0.
Hull FC pulled one back before half-time. They struck from their own end and it ended with Logan Moy diving over.
Next, Leigh's Darnell McIntosh was binned for a dangerous tackle and Hull FC used the advantage to make it 12-all at the break through Harvey Barron.
The Leopards piled on 30 points in the second half. It started with Lachlan Lam kicking through for O'Donnell to plant down for his brace.
He turned provider for the next score. O'Donnell provided the final pass for Zak Hardaker to go over to make it 22-12.
Lam provided another superb try assist for Leigh. He floated the pass to McIntosh who walked in for the four-pointer.
The Lam and O'Donnell combination struck again as the Leopards were in full flow as the forward got his hat-trick.
O'Donnell crossed for the fourth time alongside a second four-pointer for Hardaker rounded off the win.

Warrington Wolves won 36-22 against London Broncos down at Cherry Red Records Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolves keep their title challenge alive with a big win against the relegation threatened Broncos.
The visitors were the first to hit the scoreboard. Matt Dufty provided a succulent pass for Rodrick Tai to crash over.
Matty Ashton pounced on an errant pass and ran the intercept the length to touch down for the Wolves.
London did find the stripe through Josh Rourke. He sliced through on the left to make it 10-4 in the first half.
Paul Vaughan crashed over from close range for the Wolves then Toby King finished off a pass from Ashton to score.
The Broncos weren't going away and Lewis Bienek was able to find himself across the line to get the hosts into double digits.
Warrington howled from the opening to the second half with Adam Holroyd going over from close range.
London kept pushing and Sam Davis picked up the scraps to get over then Ugo Tison strided away to make it 28-22.
Josh Drinkwater kicked a penalty goal after a strip to push the lead to eight then Ashton collected a second four-pointer to round it off.
