Marshall a chance: McGregor

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor insists Benji Marshall might still be a chance to take to WIN Stadium on Sunday when the Dragons host the Panthers, despite missing last weekend's clash with the Rabbitohs.

Marshall, who picked up a hamstring injury at training in the lead-up to last Sunday's SCG match, wasn't named in the home side's squad this weekend, but McGregor says the 31-year-old will be given til kickoff to prove his fitness.

"For us it's wait and see - as it would be with any other player with [his level of] experience", McGregor told the media.

The Dragons' coach backed Josh McCrone to do the job if Marshall didn't pass fit.

"Josh has done a great job and that's what he's here for, to be that experienced player that wee need and put pressure on those guys that played on the weekend," McGregor said.

Josh Dugan meanwhile is expected to be retained at fullback, ending an awkward early-season experiment in the centres which dulled his attacking impact and exposed the side defensively.

The Dragons' clash with Penrith is Easter Sunday's only NRL match and takes place at Wollongong's WIN Stadium, with kickoff at 4:00pm.
